Your Midwife
I’m Katia Ciccarella, Midwife since 2004 and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2019. I’m a women’s health specialist with training in midwifery, infant feeding, fitness, optimal pre and postnatal nutrition and baby massage. Based in Canada Water, I offer support to parents to be and new parents in South East, Central London and Canary Wharf areas
I’m Katia Ciccarella, Midwife and Lactation Consultant. I graduated in Italy as a midwife at “Sapienza University of Rome" in 2004 and until 2010 I worked in Italy in a private/NHS funded hospital in Rome first and in an NHS Trust in Prato, Tuscany, where I operated in different settings: Obs and Gynae wards, labour ward, fetal monitoring clinic, antenatal and postnatal ward, community clinics with a particular focus on women’s health services and cervical screening.
I moved to London in 2010, and started working as a midwife in the NHS on the delivery suite, postnatal ward, private maternity unit and high risk teams.
I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in January 2019 to widen my knowledge in infant feeding and be able to offer better and more personalised support with breastfeeding to new parents. Also, the fact that I completed my training while breastfeeding my newborn daughter and going through her first milestones, reinforced my idea of a truly comprehensive support for expecting and new parents going beyond the first few weeks following a baby’s birth.
I worked in a busy NHS hospital in central London as a midwife, and although very proud of working for such a big institution, at one point I felt something was missing in the care I was providing: the deep rapport with the parents and the continuing support after their hospital stay.
At the beginning of 2020 I decided to work part time in the NHS to focus on creating Your Midwife, providing real holistic family centred care and ensuring optimal outcomes throughout the first 1000 days into parenthood
Since 2006 while in Italy, I deepened my knowledge in regards to safe exercise in pregnancy and became a fitball pregnancy instructor and aquanatal instructor. Since 2014 I’m also a UK certified pre and postnatal fitness, aquanatal and indoor cycling instructor: this has enabled me to better understand the changes of the female body throughout pregnancy and postnatal and provide my clients with the best support on general wellbeing, nutrition and movement.
I currently work also in a NHS hospital in central London as Tongue Tie Clinic coordinator, where I perform frenulotomies (tongue tie division).
